The Cosmic Rabbit

“Hallo, Rabbit,” he said, “is that you?” "Let’s pretend it isn’t,” said Rabbit, “and see what happens.” ― A.A. Milne

Welcome to our website!

I've travelled to the Karoo ever since I was about 10 years old. I published a book of photographs of the Karoo to launch my photographic career when I was 19. Every time I drove into Prince Albert I would look at a particular property called Miller's House. I thought it was so beautiful that whoever owned it owned a piece of heaven. I never dreamt that one day I might own it.

Half a Century after my ffirst visit to Prince Albert, well past midnight on a cold rainy evening on June 13th 2017 I drove my newly acquired Polaris 4x4 fun bush vehicle out of town to test ffire a rocket that I wanted to use in an Art Project. A rabbit appeared in the headlamps and started running towards the town of Prince Albert. Following it right through the centre of town running precisely on the white line in the middle of the road it kept going right through the town and out the other side on the National Road to the Swartberg Pass. Suddenly it darted out to the side of the road and stopped dead in its tracks and stared at me intently. I couldn't ffigure out what it was saying but thoughts were clearly going through it's mind. It had risked me running over it and stopped me in my tracks with it's stare. It had stopped outside Miller's House.I hopped out of the Polaris and ran up to it to give it a hug. I thought it must be exhausted and probably couldn't move. Wrong ! It disappeared in a flash.

The following night I drove out on the National Road to just stop and look at the stars and give thanks for the awesome experiences I was being given. I spent an hour or more dancing under the stars to Freddie Mercury music from the Album Queen. It was pure magic. I lifted my hands open palmed to the stars and asked for a sign that I was going to get the farm. As I drove back into town there was a rabbit, the only one I saw that night, sitting right outside Miller's House.

" Don't you get it ?"  my friend Jean the Astronomer said, That's the  The Cosmic  Rabbit communicating with you !!! That place is yours !!! Sure enough one week later and I've just paid the deposit. Life can be magical. The Cosmic Rabbit had spoken and that is how the name for this website came about. A friend has just been in touch to say that it was a rabbit that led Alice into Wonderland....adding that later at the Mad Hatter's tea party the March Hare says : "I like what I get is the same thing as I get what I like".......

You do not have to be good

You do not have to walk on your knees

For a hundred miles through the desert, repenting

You only have to let the soft animal of your body

love what it loves

Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine

Meanwhile the world goes on

Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain

are moving across the landscapes

over the prairies and the deep trees

the mountains and the rivers

Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air

are heading home again

Whoever you are, no matter how lonely

the world offers itself to your imagination

calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting

over and over announcing your place

in the family of things.
